I realize this is detailed on the hanadama certificate, but unless one sees the certificate they really have no way to know what are the standards or criteria. This opens the door for not-so-scrupulous sellers to make unsubstantiated claims.

How many people have found American Pearl’s claims that “hanadama is not a quality indicator but only a color indicator” and taken the statement at face value? Those people probably now believe it because few likely visit Mikimoto’s Web site or Pearl-Guide.com just to research a claim. If Mikimoto and the PSL of Tokyo would publish the criteria of hanadama on their Web sites instead of simply their certificates I think it would make false claimants’ jobs a lot more difficult.

This is just my two cents on the topic. I am glad this blog post is here. I have fielded a number of calls about the hanadama statements on AmericanPearl.com.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-987726042650983968.post-29174605526327224762008-07-11T13:10:00.000-07:002008-07-11T13:10:00.000-07:00No. Majorica pearls are imitation pearls made with...No. Majorica pearls are imitation pearls made with a glass-bead core, not a shell core. The bead is dipped into a solution called essence d'orient (which actually has a type of fish scale as an ingredient) that coats the bead and produces a pearl-like luster effect.Pearl Paradise FAQhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03857208677112108711noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-987726042650983968.post-3871458686454182582008-07-11T11:09:00.000-07:002008-07-11T11:09:00.000-07:00Are majorica pearls considered shell pearls as wel...Are majorica pearls considered shell pearls as well?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-987726042650983968.post-35879007565692138332008-07-10T12:51:00.000-07:002008-07-10T12:51:00.000-07:00Dark colors with green overtones are considered pe...Dark colors with green overtones are considered peacock by some, but to truly be peacock the pearl needs to have another overtone such as red or purple.
