Drooping Ear Lobes

Q: I own a pair of 11mm Tahitians that exposed the white gold stud (the round part that fits against the pearl) a bit due to drooping in my earlobes. I had them reset as drops but I really would like a pair of large South sea studs. Short of having plastic surgery to increase the size of my ear lobes do you have any suggestions?

A: It is a common problem with the larger size pearls for the earrings to pitch forward or droop. I'm certain you do not have faulty earlobes because I have the same issue and have taken to wearing all the large pearls as dangles as well! Generally up to about 10mm will stay more upright, but when the pearls get larger, the weight will begin to pull them forward. If you use the earring backs that have a clear disc around them (about 1/4") this also helps to stabilize the earrings. We generally include a pair of these large disc-backs with earrings of 11mm or larger, but if you do decide to order a pair of any size and would like us to send you a pair of these backs, just let us know and we'll be happy to include them with the package.
