Q: I am interested in purchasing a Freshadama pearl set (necklace, earrings and bracelet) for my wedding day. I am interested in the 7.0-8.0 set, FPN208, and I also like the 8.0-9.0 set, FPN30. The price more than doubles, but I see that there is a large size difference in the full1mm, other places I've seen differentiate between 1/2 mm. Therefore, I was wondering if you can customize my set as follows. 1. Instead of 18 inches, I would like a 17 inch length. 2. Instead of stud earrings I would like dangle earrings. 3. Instead of 7.0-8.0 mm or 8.0-9.0mm (1mm difference), can we arrange a 8.0-8.5mm pearl set (1/2mm difference)? I've seen this size offered in other websites and hope you do also. In other words, I would like to settle somewhere in between your two options.
A: The industry standard for all freshwater pearls is delineation by a 1mm size range, as with the exotic South Sea pearls. The standard for Akoya pearls is a .5mm size gradation on any given strand so you may have been looking at saltwater pearls as well as freshwater. One reason for this difference in graduation standards is that most freshwater pearls are not perfectly round so when one measures a single freshwater pearl in a variety of directions, the measurement will not be consistent – rather like measuring an egg. In the case of the very round Freshadama pearls, the strands will have a small graduation (usually in the .5mm range) but the strand as a whole, will be somewhere in its 1mm size range. For example, when someone orders a 7-8mm Freshadama strand or set, the items will have some graduation and be somewhere between 7.0mm and 8.0mm.
As any pearls get larger, all things being equal, the price does increase considerably because the rarity of these increases. The Freshadama pearls are extremely rare and as such the larger the pearls in this category, the higher the prices go to reflect this rarity.
We can customize the set as you request with the strand at 17” and make the earrings into dangles, the price will depend on which size you ultimately select. You also have the option of purchasing the strand and the dangle earrings separately if you prefer a set without a bracelet. Both the necklace and dangle earrings are listed on the site as standard items.
