Q: I am interested in purchasing a pearl necklace to give to my fiance for our wedding. What exactly is the "overtone" option for the necklaces?
A: The overtone is a very subtle variation of the white colour of the pearls. The basic overtones are silver, rose, and ivory the choice of which is really based on the skin tone of the person wearing them. For someone with any redness or who has freckles, the best overtone is silver. A person with any cool undertones or very dark skin, the best choice is ivory. If she has more of a medium skin colour and gets even a little bit tan in the summer, the best is rose. If you are just not certain about any of this then the rose is probably the one you want – it’s the most universally flattering and you really can’t go wrong with the rose.
Sometimes it helps to know if she prefers to wear yellow metals or white metals, or her choices in wardrobe colours. We’d be very happy to help you determine the right overtone if you need any additional advice. Our office hours are Monday through Friday, 9am to 5pm PST if you prefer to give us a call.
