Small Tahitian Pearls

Q: Do you have any black Tahitian necklaces that are 5-6 mm in size?

A: Tahitian pearls have an average size range of about 8mm to 14mm with some larger sizes occurring but becoming increasingly rare as the size increases. The Pinctata margaratifera oysters are quite large in size so the bead nuclei used are larger, generally starting at about 7mm. The end results are much larger size range of pearls than either Akoya or Freshwater pearls. If you are interested in smaller size dark pearls, we offer treated Freshwater strands starting at 6-7mm and treated Akoya strands starting at 6.0-6.5mm. Neither of these have naturally occurring dark color like Tahitian pearls so they will have been color treated to give them a dark coloration. These treatments have been in use very many years and as such have proven themselves to be stable and do not require any care other than the standard care for any other pearl type.
