Q: Hi, I want to begin buying loose pearls to build a necklace for my now 6 month old Grandaughter. I plan to purchase Loose White Akoya Pearl - AAA 7.0-7.5mm (SWL200) and build it into a 16 to 18 inch necklace that I will have strung once all the pearls are purchased. My question is how many pearls on average does it take to fill that size necklace? If you can tell me this info. I can plan for the expense and be sure to purchase enough of the pearls each year to have it for her on a date to be decided later.
A: This sounds like a great idea!
The average number of pearls in a 7.5 mm necklace ranges from 50 to 55.
I hope this helps! Please let me know if I can be of additional assistance.

A good idea for that add a pearl thing is to get all the pearls drilled large so you can slide them on a chain - add one pearl to the chain pearl year. This is the best way to do add-a-pearl in my opinion. The only catch is that the chain needs to be soldered every year.
